Is this the face of pure evil? It might just be—Donald Sutherland has been cast as President Snow in The Hunger Games.

Although Snow mostly lurks around the outskirts of the first volume of Games, he is unquestionably the series’ main puppet master (and hey, Sutherland starred in a film called The Puppet Masters!) A quietly malevolent figure who is shrouded in secrecy, Snow was described in the books as a thin and unassumingly small man — which aren’t quite the words that come to mind when you consider the 6’4” Sutherland. Still, the actor has certainly earned his epic-enigmatic bona fides — remember his Mister X in JFK? — and it should be interesting to see him play off Jennifer Lawrence’s spunky Katniss Everdeen.

Some more casting news: Red-headed newcomer Amber Chaney will play the Avox Girl in the big screen adaptation of The Hunger Games.

British character actor Toby Jones — if you haven’t seen his take on Truman Capote, rent Infamous immediately — has been tapped to play bombastic Hunger Games announcer Claudius Templesmith. Claudius is best known for ending all of his pronouncements with his booming trademark line, “And may the odds be ever in your favor!”

Tributes complete! Alexander Ludwig (Race to Witch Mountain) and Isabelle Fuhrman (the creepy girl from Orphan) have been cast as District 2 tributes Cato and Clove in the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games. They are the fiercest duo of the dreaded Careers alliance. Cato in particular is a nasty piece of work, and perhaps Katniss’ biggest competition in the reality TV fight to the death. A hulking, fiercely competitive specimen, he’s out for blood. His girl counterpart Clove is an expert knife-thrower and takes tremendous glee in her kills.

Now it’s time to start speculating about Cinna…

At long last, we have our Haymitch: Woody Harrelson.

“Haymitch is such an unforgettable character: funny cranky outrageous, sarcastic, impatient, biting but ultimately kind,” Hunger Games director Gary Ross said in a statement. “I’m so grateful we have Woody Harrelson to play him. I can’t wait for us to get to work.”

How do you guys feel about this casting? Are you disappointed that the part didn’t go to someone like Robert Downey Jr., or excited to see what the Zombieland star will do with the role?

The reports are true: Stanley Tucci will play Hunger Games announcer Caesar Flickerman in the upcoming film. Does this mean Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz will be locked down soon as well?

American Beauty star Wes Bentley has been tapped to play Seneca Crane, the 74th Hunger Games Head Gamemaker. Crane oversees the games themselves, and makes a decision at the end of the first book that sets the course for Suzanne Collins’ dystopian trilogy.

Bentley, who has been amping up his movie work since taking a short break in the mid-2000s, appeared in Jonah Hex last year.

But wait, there’s more casting news! Playing the unnamed tribute boy from Panem’s District 6 is Ashton Moio, an actor with a stunt background who has boasted bit roles in series like No Ordinary Family, iCarly, and Dexter. (He also appeared in 2010′s Let Me In.)

Kara Petersen is set as District 6′s unnamed female tribute. Petersen, a stunt woman, has done work for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Super 8

Finally, the casting news we’ve really been waiting for! What does everyone think of Jacqueline Emerson, a.k.a. Foxface?

About an hour ago, the actress coyly asked Twitter followers to name the origin of the quote “I’m smiling at you even though you’re aggravating me,” which, we know, is a line from none other than that effervescent escort to extinction, Ms. Trinket. The actress then retweeted the correct answer along with “Yes! And I can now confirm I’m EFFIE TRINKET in @TheHungerGames. So excited!”, confirming that she would indeed be reteaming with her Seabiscuit director Gary Ross to play the character in his big-screen version of the bestselling YA novel.

We have our District 3 tributes! Names: Tribute Boy and Tribute Girl.

fuckyeahthehungergames:

Loaded question: Who plays a paunchy, pathetic drunk better than John C. Reilly? Actually, that’s a bit of a trick, because the answer, of course, is no one. And for that reason, we’re told it will be the Oscar-nominated Reilly who’ll be soon be getting the offer to play Haymitch Abernathy in…

Okay, we hadn’t even thought of this possibility—but now that we are thinking about it, it makes perfect sense.

The Glee star followed this tweet with a second one: “I’m thinking Johanna…”

What do you think—does Santana have what it takes to play the fierce Hunger Games victor?

Here’s your PrimLionsgate and The Hunger Games team announced today that newcomer Willow Shields will play Primrose Everdeen, Katniss’ beloved younger sister, in the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games.

Thoughts?

Jack Quaid, son of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, and Leven Rambin (Grey’s Anatomy, All My Children) have been cast as two of the Career Tributes in the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games. Making his acting debut, Quaid will play Marvel, the brutal male tribute from District 1. Ramblin will play his female counterpart Glimmer, the emerald-eyed vixen who nabs the bow and arrow set at the Cornucopia.

How do they compare to your visions of these characters?
